Nature Program Facilitator:
In collaboration with the Mayne Island Early Childhood Society, we are hiring a team member for the summer of 2026 to support our Nature Education programming, with a focus on Early Childhood Education. This is a 10 week position starting June 15th, 2026 to August 21, 2026* (with some flexibility around the start and end dates). Average of 30 hours per week with a starting wage of $25.00/hr.

Responsibilities include:
– Working with other program staff on planning and scheduling
– Creating communication materials to promote programs
– Customizing available outdoor education resources
– Participating in team-building and leadership development activities
– Providing care, nutrition, and leadership for children ages 3-12
– Communicating with colleagues, families, children and other community stakeholders
– Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for programs to take place.
* This position will be subject to availability of funding.
Desired qualifications (you need not have experience in all of the elements listed below):
– ECE, ECEA or RA certification is desired, but not required. There may be opportunities to work toward certification within this position.
– prior experience working at summer camps, in child care and/or early childhood education using child-led learning or inquiry-based approaches.
– prior experience managing, mentoring or supervising youth between the ages of 13-16.
– experience in outdoor education or nature-based community outreach.
– first aid and CPR training and certification

Nature Education and Communications Assistant
In collaboration with the Mayne Island Conservancy, we are hiring a team member for the summer of 2026 to support educational programming and communications.
This is a 12 week position starting June 1, 2026 to August 21, 2026* (with some flexibility around the start and end dates). Average of 35 hours per week with a starting wage of $23.50/hr with a possibility to increase the wage part way through the summer, based on favourable performance.

Duties may include:
- Work collaboratively to deliver nature-based programing for youth ages 6-12,
- Adapt or develop and deliver nature-based events and programming for adults,
- Assist in the coordination and training of youth leaders (ages 14-18),
- Communicate with parents of youth participating in nature-based education programs,
- Deliver educational content at public events (e.g., farmer’s markets)
- Capture and edit photos and videos to create educational and promotional materials,
- Contribute to communications through writing pieces for newsletters or social media,
- Conduct interviews with community members to highlight contributions to conservation,
- Support community-based ecological restoration and monitoring efforts,
- Contribute to native plant propagation and rearing (watering, weeding, seed collecting)

Desired qualifications (you need not have experience in all of the elements listed below):
– prior experience developing programs for nature-based education and outreach with youth and/or adults,
– skills in science communication, including writing and leveraging social media to support conservation and environmental awareness,
– experience capturing and editing video footage and/or conducting interviews to support communication goals,
– prior experience managing, mentoring or supervising youth between the ages of 13-16.
– prior experience as a summer camp counselor, or youth instructor.
– a relevant degree, or progress toward a degree related to the environment, education and/or communication.
